Xavier Hermosillo has lived an eclectic existence as a journalist, television commentator, radio talkshow host, political analyst, business executive, college educator, administrative law hearing examiner, and community activist.

He is a nationally recognized crisis management and crisis communications leader, co-founder/principal of three publicly-traded companies on the New York and NASDAQ stock exchanges, an award-winning investigative print/radio/television journalist with two Pulitzer Prize nominations, a high level political operative at state and federal levels, and a nationally certified mediator and negotiator.  He is recognized for his strategic approach to resolving complicated sensitive business and regulatory agency legal issues, and political interference in business.  

Mr. Hermosillo has a high-level political background:

  • Served as Chief of Staff to Democrat Assemblymen Vincent Thomas, D-San Pedro, Speaker ProTem of the California State Assembly
  • Served as Chief of Staff to Assembly Republican Whip Dr. Gerald Felando, R-Torrance
  • He has successfully strategized and won eight political campaigns for all his candidates
  • He served in consulting or commission appointments under two California governors and two U.S. Presidents

He is an award-winning Writer, Editor, Producer and Reporter in the print and electronic media:

  • He earned two Pulitzer Prize nominations, and won five Copley Ring of Truth Awards, and several UPI and AP reporting and photography awards, all in Los Angeles
  • He hosted a nightly talk show on both KABC TalkRadio and 710TALK-KMPC radio in Los Angeles
  • He was a TV commentator and political news analyst for KCOP-Channel 13 and ABC News in Los Angeles
  • He won awards for his documentary of the 1994 Mexican-Zapatista rebel war in the Southern jungle state of Chiapas
  • He recently was the editor of “An Ocean of Inspiration”, a biography of John Olguin, founder of one of the first aquariums in the world, as well as the creator of the phenomenon of whale watching and ecotourism

Mr. Hermosillo is an experienced corporate leader, small business executive, and entrepreneur and served on the Board of Directors and as an officer for two public companies he helped co-found or consult:

  • He was Executive Vice President of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications at Metal Management Inc., a start-up NASDAQ company based in Chicago that grew to $2-Billion in three years, later traded on the NYSE, and then sold to SIMS Metals-Australia, making it the largest metal recycling firm in the world.  He headed its National Crisis Response Team and served as President of Metal Management’s European Operations. He led all Wall Street, crisis management, and government affairs for the company.
  • He was also a consultant in developing USA Waste Services, where he and his partners helped the founders acquire dozens of waste haulers and landfills across the U.S., then remediated them, growing to $7.5-Billion and traded on the New York Stock Exchange.  USA Waste then completed a $12-Billion leveraged buyout of Waste Management, now the largest waste hauler and landfill operator in the world.  
  • He served as West Coast Director of Public Relations for Philip Morris, leading public and government affairs, media relations, and sports and ethnic marketing for Miller Brewing and 7-UP.  He was also a senior member of the Philip Morris International Corporate Affairs team as a marketer and a team leader of its international crisis response team.
  • After leaving Miller Brewing, he created Xavier Hermosillo & Associates and CrisisPros, handling crisis management and communications, government affairs, public relations, brand image rebuilding, and business development for small companies, several government agencies, and large corporations ranging from Coca-Cola and Adolph Coors, to Union Pacific Railroad, Marriott Hotels, Alaska Airlines, the Motion Picture Officers Association, and many others.

He has an extensive background combining his education, professional credentials, and a variety of high-level community involvement:

  • He earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Los Angeles Harbor College
  • He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Communications and Management at Williamstown University
  • He has taught Criminal Justice at the community college level
  • He served as Administrative Law Hearing Examiner for the Los Angeles Police Commission, helping adjudicate nearly 100 LAPD officer discipline cases
  • He served as a Civilian Advisor to two Los Angeles County Sheriffs
  • He is a Certified Global Logistics Specialist with emphasis on international trade and port security
