STATE OF THE UNION with Arthur C. Schaper
Arthur C. Schaper comments on the issues, timeless and timely, political, cultural, and eternal. Special guests will include local leaders and candidates, along with calls from viewers and listeners, whether for better or for worse.
Born in Torrance, CA the same year that Ronald Reagan was elected President, Arthur Christopher Schaper has lived in the South Bay all of his life.
From an early age, he was following Presidential politics, a Ross Perot supporter before he could vote (and even after the Reform candidate suspended then reinstated his campaign), Arthur liked the idea of politicians keeping their promises (or holding them accountable when they do not).
Even when he was training for other careers (scooping ice cream, teaching, and now tutoring), the heartbeat for politics, for cultural news, and a focus on the eternal and temporal kept him occupied. Both a reader and a writer, Arthur never stopped taking down his thoughts and sharing them with others.
His political bent has always been conservative, protecting life, carrying about family, but regarding the leanest government as best, respecting the genius of the Constitution and the general wisdom of individuals and private interests. A libertarian on some issues, but liberal in the true sense through and through, Arthur learned a great deal about free markets, free enterprise, and free people while earning Bachelors' Degrees at UC Irvine, followed by his few and frustrating years a teacher in LA area schools.
His career in writing took of in 2010, after Congress passed and President Obama signed into law the dreaded Affordable Care Act. Outraged at the insufferable arrogance of Washington DC, he started blogging the same year, stumping for the best candidates to win back the US Senate that same year.
In 2011, he was writing letters to the local and national press. His Editorials appeared in the Los Angeles Jewish Observer and the Daily Breeze.
Relating about his former experiences as a teacher as well as sharing his views on current events, Arthur revved into blogging, campaigning, and stumping for key issues in Election Year 2012. Stumping for local and national candidates, Arthur generated a following of fans (and bitter trolls). Disappointed with the outcome, four more years of Obama and no, the South Bay writer and blogger began reaching out impacted and diminished Republican minorities in blue states, particularly New England, and specifically Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.
In Rhode Island, his commentaries on the local politics there (combined with the similar miasma of liberalism in California) made his a well-known and sought-after columnist on the East Coast. From Go Local Prov and Go Local Worcester to 990WBOB based in Providence, Arthur has commented on the web and on the radio about the politics of the day.
And now, finally, after much cajoling from his Southern California conservative peers, Arthur has his own radio show, right here in the Sunny South Bay. Tune in every Thursday at 12 noon as Arthur Schaper dishes on the State of the Union, whether the local scene, the national state of things, or global concerns.
